With a hearty cry of “YARR!” and a blast of radiant crystal, we dash to the finish line of the Fifth Doctor-era’s “Black Guardian Trilogy”.

We discuss the interesting balance of shipboard adventure, humans stolen from time, and Turlough’s ongoing grappling match between morality and sinister manipulation. The Eternals are the subject of an interesting debate on what is “inherently evil” when discussing an immortal entity so beyond human comprehension, accusations of cruelty don’t seem to apply as well. We also note — with alarm — that this is the first and last story with both a woman writing and directing for nearly 40 years.

Lastly, our unanimous affection as viewers is given to the character of Captain Wrack…and on this very release day, we mourn the passing of actor Lynda Baron.
