BBC marketing has two speeds
Feast or famine, we never really know what to expect from the powers-that-be regarding this television program. After what feels like (and likely was) a painfully long drought of official news on the development, production, post-production, and scheduled airing of the next series, a strange 20-second panto scene of a teaser trailer is dropped on us in this, the second week of October, telling us we have maybe three weeks to get ready.
So it looks as though we’re getting Series 13 in the Fall of 2021 as promised after all (and just barely), as we’re told that Halloween 2021 will mark the first episode of eight. We discuss the implications on the calendar, where the subsequent “three specials in 2022” will fall, and what sort of details the unusual teaser trailer/announcement actually gives us. We mean…besides Dan mashing controls on the TARDIS console, that is.
We’re not going to waste energy commenting on this offbeat marketing strategy because honestly, we just want the new stories and if this is what it takes, so be it. Our concerns are on the casual fans — if they’re still around — who may have walked away or even written off the show during the hiatus, and this sort of campaign doesn’t often win those viewers back.
