It feels fitting that as we ready ourselves for the 60th anniversary special in 2023, we have the opportunity to enjoy this gem of a 20th anniversary story from 1983.

We discuss the balance between providing a retrospective for enjoyment’s sake and telling an interesting tale (spoiler: this does both). We also pick a few ideal moments that make this story such a pleasure, as well as take a moment to give high praise to Ainley’s absolutely stellar performance as the Master. We also take some time to note what these sort of celebratory anniversary episodes should (in our opinions) contain to make them a tribute to the past as well as a preparation for the future, and hope that the forthcoming 60th special takes at least a solitary page from that playbook.
